Founded in Kentucky in 1869, the brand was originally known as the Ripy Brothers Distillery. The name “Wild Turkey” came later when distillery executive Thomas McCarthy brought several whiskey samples on a wild turkey hunting trip in the 1940s. His friends enjoyed the whiskey so much that they began asking for “that Wild Turkey whiskey,” inspiring the brand name that remains today.

Wild Turkey 101 8 Year Old is the flagship bourbon that defines the Wild Turkey style. Unusually long-aged for a bourbon, it undergoes eight years of maturation, developing a rich and deeply layered character. The heavily charred oak barrels contribute to its deep copper color and bold full-bodied profile. Intense rye spice is balanced by lingering notes of dark chocolate and oak, leading into a long, satisfying finish that has made it a longtime favorite among whiskey enthusiasts. Despite its higher proof, the whiskey remains remarkably refined and well balanced.
