Established in 1812, Royal Brackla holds the distinction of being the first Scottish distillery to receive a Royal Warrant, granted in 1833. While there are over 100 distilleries in Scotland, the prestigious “Royal” title is used by only three.

Royal Brackla 18 Year Old is finished in Palo Cortado Sherry casks, a choice typically reserved for the finest whiskies. This results in an expression characterized by elegant acidity, dry nutty aromas, and a complex texture.

Palo Cortado is a rare Sherry variety that begins its life aging under a layer of “flor” (yeast), intended to become a Fino or Amontillado. However, for reasons often unknown, the flor disappears, and the wine begins to undergo oxidative aging like an Oloroso. The result is a rare wine that combines the richness of Oloroso with the crispness of Amontillado. Naturally, only about 1–2% of the grapes pressed for Sherry undergo this transformation.
