There was once a Japanese man who studied the art of whisky making in Scotland and became the first to bring that knowledge back to Japan — his name was Masataka Taketsuru. After returning from Scotland, Taketsuru founded Nikka Whisky and dedicated himself to creating whiskies in the traditional Scotch style. To achieve this, he chose locations with climates similar to Scotland’s and crafted whiskies known for their rich malt character and gentle peat influence.

Taketsuru was not only a respected craftsman, but also a man of open-minded vision and passion. Nikka Taketsuru was created by his successors as a tribute to the founder, carrying on the techniques and philosophy he left behind.
