Monkey Shoulder is a blended malt whisky made entirely from single malts sourced from three renowned Scottish distilleries: Glenfiddich, Balvenie, and Kininvie.
The name “Monkey Shoulder” comes from the traditional whisky-making process known as floor malting. Workers who performed this labor-intensive task, called maltmen, often suffered from shoulder strain caused by repeatedly turning the malt by hand. Their hunched posture was said to resemble a monkey’s shoulders, giving rise to the nickname “Monkey Shoulder.” This whisky was created as a tribute to those workers.
Breaking away from the heavy and traditional image often associated with blended malts, Monkey Shoulder aims for a smoother, sweeter, and more approachable style of malt whisky.
