Michel Couvreur Overaged Cask Strength

Michel Couvreur, the founder of the renowned whisky house that has gained significant popularity in Korea, originally worked in the wine industry in Burgundy, France—one of the world’s most prestigious wine-producing regions. However, his true passion lay not in wine, but in whisky and, more specifically, in the transformative power of cask maturation.

Couvreur firmly believed that 90% of a whisky’s quality comes from the cask. After studying whisky production in Scotland in 1964, he returned to Burgundy and established his own company in 1978. Rather than operating as a traditional independent bottler, he imported new make spirits and young whiskies from Scotland, France, and Ireland, then matured and blended them in Burgundy’s unique cellars. This philosophy earned him recognition as a true whisky blender, dedicated to shaping spirit through exceptional cask management.

Michel Couvreur Overaged Cask Strength is bottled at a robust 52% ABV and displays a deep amber color that reflects its rich maturation. The nose is layered with smoky notes, tobacco, sherry, almonds, leather, and dark chocolate. On the palate, delicate flavors of apple, orange, raisins, caramel, and fruit preserves unfold with remarkable elegance and complexity. The finish is long and memorable, carrying sweet red grape notes alongside subtle hints of smoked salmon, spice, and mature sherry character.

A whisky that perfectly embodies Michel Couvreur’s philosophy, Overaged Cask Strength showcases the profound influence of cask maturation, delivering a rich, sophisticated, and deeply rewarding tasting experience.
