Founded in 1815, Laphroaig Distillery is located on the southern coast of Islay and is renowned for producing single malt whiskies with the most intense and singular peat profiles. While its name translates from Gaelic as “the beautiful hollow by the broad bay,” the character of Laphroaig is anything but mellow—it is rugged, raw, and unapologetically honest.

The distinctive aromas of iodine, seaweed, and medicinal ointments can be startling at first, yet they soon reveal a deep and addictive charm. Traditional floor maltings, cold-smoking with peat, and seaside maturation all coalesce to define the powerful impression that is “Laphroaig.”

Laphroaig Quarter Cask is a expression where traditionally distilled spirit is transferred into smaller “quarter casks” (one-fourth the size of a standard barrel) for additional maturation. This significantly increases the contact surface area between the liquid and the oak, resulting in a much more intense flavor profile and a stronger oak influence despite the shorter aging period. While maintaining Laphroaig’s signature heavy peat, iodine, and maritime notes, this process imparts a richer, more oily texture alongside powerful surges of sweet vanilla and spice.
