Highland Park, established in 1798 on the remote Orkney Islands at the northernmost tip of Scotland, is a distillery steeped in tradition. Despite its name, it is classified as an “Islands” region distillery rather than Highland. On these islands, which possess a culture and climate distinct from the Scottish mainland, Highland Park has crafted unique single malts rooted in a 500-year-old Viking heritage and untamed nature.
The distillery’s most defining feature is its use of Heather Peat. By using peat composed of wild heather—the purple wildflowers that carpet the islands—it produces a subtle and aromatic smoke. This provides a soft, sweet smokiness that differs entirely from typical Islay peat, making Highland Park truly incomparable.
Highland Park 18 Year Old is considered the most acclaimed classic of the distillery. Symbolizing “Viking Pride,” it is a masterpiece where deep sherry flavors, smooth peat, and mature malt harmonize perfectly. Thanks to its long maturation in Spanish sherry oak, it delivers an overwhelming sense of weight and sophisticated aroma.
