Bunnahabhain, established in 1881 on the northeastern coast of Islay, Scotland, derives its name from the Gaelic for “mouth of the river,” referring to the Margadale Spring used in its production. While most Islay distilleries are famous for their heavy peat and intense smokiness, Bunnahabhain is distinct for primarily producing smooth and rich malts that use little to no peat. The water used for its whisky is drawn from the nearby Margadale Spring, which is regarded as one of the purest water sources on the island.
Bunnahabhain 12 Year Old is the flagship expression that upholds the distillery’s long-standing traditions, showcasing a delicate and elegant departure from typical Islay malts. Matured in a harmonious blend of Oloroso Sherry and Bourbon casks, it is characterized by a clean yet deep flavor profile in a signature unpeated style.
