Rye has always been an important part of the Bulleit identity.
The story dates back to the 1830s, when Augustus Bulleit, a tavern keeper in Louisville, began making his own whiskey with an unusually high proportion of rye. While transporting barrels of whiskey to New Orleans, Augustus mysteriously disappeared, and both he and his original recipe faded into history.
More than a century later, his great-great-grandson Tom Bulleit revived the family name, eventually bringing Bulleit back to the whiskey world.
In 2011, that long-standing connection with rye was taken even further with the release of Bulleit 95 Rye.
While American rye whiskey requires a minimum of 51% rye in its mash bill, Bulleit uses an exceptional 95% rye and 5% malted barley. The “95” on the bottle refers to this remarkably high proportion of rye.
Originally developed with bartenders in mind, Bulleit Rye was designed to deliver the bold spice, dry structure, and intensity needed to remain distinctive even when mixed into classic cocktails.
A whiskey that takes Bulleit’s long-standing high-rye identity to its most direct expression.
