Aberlour means “the mouth of the chattering burn” in Gaelic, and the distillery is named after the village where it resides. One of Aberlour’s greatest points of pride is its commitment to using only local barley grown within 15 miles of the distillery—a philosophy maintained since its founding in 1879.

A defining characteristic of Aberlour is its use of the “marrying” technique rather than the cask-finishing method common in modern whisky production. By maturing spirits separately in different casks and then blending them in a marrying tun, the distillery preserves the core essence of each cask while achieving exceptional balance. It is also well-known as the best-selling single malt whisky in France.

Aberlour 16 Year Old Double Cask Matured is crafted from spirits aged for at least 16 years in both bourbon and Oloroso sherry oak casks, which are then stabilized in a marrying tun before bottling. Unlike cask-finished products, this expression achieves a beautiful union between the casks while allowing the rich characteristics of the sherry to become more prominent. For those who appreciate whisky, this is a truly essential expression to experience.
